Capture when the quest allows it, the monster is weak enough, and you want to end the hunt safely. Slay when the objective demands it, when a monster cannot be trapped, or when your party still needs part breaks. The basic flow is simple: weaken the monster, trap it, then use tranq items before it escapes.
Hunt Prep
| Item | Purpose | Tip |
|---|
| Shock or Pitfall Trap | Holds the monster in place | Bring at least one, plus backup materials if possible |
| Tranq Bombs | Finishes the capture | Bring extras in case one misses |
| Healing items | Covers the dangerous final phase | Low health monsters often become frantic |
| Burst items | Helps part breaks before cleanup | Do not accidentally kill the target during capture setup |
Capture Flow
| Step | Check | Common Failure |
|---|
| 1 | Monster is weak enough | Trap is placed too early |
| 2 | Quest allows capture | Objective requires slaying |
| 3 | Trap works on the target | Monster or state ignores that trap |
| 4 | Tranq immediately while trapped | Monster escapes before the tranq lands |
In multiplayer, signal before capturing. Many failed captures happen because one hunter starts the trap while another keeps attacking at full pace.
Capture or Slay
| Situation | Better Choice | Why |
|---|
| Story progression | Capture if allowed | Safer final phase |
| Farming a part break | Break first, then decide | Ending early can miss the target part |
| Objective says slay | Slay | Quest text wins |
| Repeated co-op farming | Agree before the hunt | Keeps everyone on the same goal |
