Quick Answer

Build your early party around roles, not just damage. A stable four-person group covers frontline safety, healing/support, control or area damage, and utility such as lockpicking, traps, scouting, or dialogue.

Party Check Logic

  1. Bring at least one character who can stand in front.
  2. Bring someone who can rescue downed allies reliably.
  3. Keep at least one control or area-damage option.
  4. Exploration feels better with lock and trap coverage.
  5. If your main character covers one role, use companions to fill the gaps.

FAQ

Is Shadowheart mandatory?

No, but she is beginner-friendly. Bless, healing, and emergency recovery make early mistakes less punishing.

Is Astarion only for lockpicking?

No. He also scouts, opens fights well, and adds burst damage. Lockpicking simply makes him very useful while exploring.

Does this work for Honour Mode?

It is a good foundation, but Honour Mode needs stricter planning around initiative, control, escape options, and resource spending.
